“Net Neutrality ensures that all users can access the content or run the applications and devices of their choice. With Net Neutrality, the network’s only job is to move data — not choose which data to privilege with higher quality service. Net Neutrality prevents the companies that control the wires from discriminating against content based on its source or ownership.”
read up on the issues at stake here. this brings to mind recent reports of streamyx (local broadband provider) throttling bittorrent and P2P traffic . arguing that 13% of subscribers are hogging 73% of their bandwidth, many subcribers have felt the brunt in recent times including yours truly. downloads that use to run at around 100 kb/s are now down by 50% or more. the company seems to be under the unrealistic illusion that people sign up for broadband in order to email and surf the net only. if i had only wanted that i would go back to dial up and not have to pay a premium for broadband access. if anything streamyx is not living up to their end of the bargain which is to provide quality internet access.
